When summer season rolls around, it’s a blast to get out and celebrate with the people you love the most. Hanging out together, making memories, and having period of time to visit, catch up, and laugh is always a plus. But. Before you can even leave the house, there’s a great deal of preparation that has to come together beforehand, especially if you have a family and you’re trying to get the kids ready, too.
If that’s the circumstances, you often can’t even enjoy yourself until all the prep is behind you and you’re on the road. And if you’re the one in charge of planning the entire shindig, you’re aiming to take a lot of things into consideration so that the getaway is a hit for everyone! In order to help you out, we’ve created five simple tips for when you are arranging for this year’s fun in the sun.
Protecting yourself in the sun is important, and gone are the days when you need to spend minutes (that feel like hours) rubbing sunblock lotion on all the kids (and then trying to get the greasy residue off your own fingers!). The sunblock sticks (think glue sticks) are awesome for getting faces without getting anything in the eyes! Regardless of the fun on your calendar this summer, pack plenty of sunblock so you can play in the sun as much as you want without getting burned.
Don’t ever overpack. Specifically if you have kids, it can sometimes be easy to bring the entire house in the car. In the back of your mind, you may be worried that if you leave this or that item in your home, you’re going to end up needing it surely. So, what happens? You pack lots of shirts and shorts, some long pants in the event it gets cool, a sweatshirt, medicine, extra diapers, and on and on and on, aiming to ensure that you’re gotten ready for whatever reality. Yet, here’s the thing. In our experience, we usually end up packing way excessively and it’s largely excessive. (Particularly if the family is headed to one destination for an entire week, you can always wash clothes and wear them again if need be, and there’s often a store in town where you could go get some Motrin if the baby starts teething.) Keeping it simple by streamlining makes it easy to get ready for the week and a cinch to throw everything back in the car when it’s time to head home.
Being in the heat often saps your energy and makes you hungry for something salty! If you’re headed for a beach vacation or lots of time walking around in the sun, stock up on salty snacks and something cool to quench your thirst.
When you’re trying to decide where to go, choose a destination that will be a good fit for the entire family. You can’t really enjoy yourself if the kids aren’t entertained.
And eventually, as a final tip, make a master packing list. Before you even start packing, make a master list of everything you should bring along, and write down even the basic things. Then, when it’s time to pack, you can star each item as you pack it away. The great thing about this? You know you won’t overlook anything. And, when it comes time to head and leave home, you can pull that same list out and look at to make certain that you got everything back into the car. If you do that, you’ll be sure to not overlook your glasses at the rental vacation home or your chef knife that you brought along to make sure you’d have a decent kitchen knife when preparing meals.
