When you hear the word fall, what comes to mind? We often start cooking warmer meals, and curling up with a good book sounds like just the ticket.
Fall is also a great time for gathering with extended family for bunches of fun affairs and traditions, and if you want to get the entire clan together for an activity, on this page are some ideas you might take into consideration:
Football games. Ummmm … cuz what says fall quite like football? Having anyone over for a BBQ while watching a game is a classic American pastime and one you don’t want to lose out on.
Pumpkin carving. There’s nothing like getting all the kids together to carve faces in jack o’ lanterns. It’s always exciting to see what kids create, whether they go with something friendly, funny, or creepy.
Apple picking. It’s pretty delightful to go as a crew to pick apples, peaches or pears. And hey … you can always do some canning and fill the pantry shelves so you can enjoy the fruit throughout the winter, too.
Family pictures. In prep for the coming Yuletide season, families usually have pictures taken. It’s always entertaining to find just the right location and get a picture with the entire family, involving any new additions since the last photo.
Corn maze or haunted houses. There’s nothing quite like choosing some spooks in the month of October. Run past chainsaw holders and get stunned by ghosts as you make your way through haunted walls and mazes.
Thanksgiving. Assembling to enjoy a yummy meal and eat your family’s favorite holiday dishes is charming and comforting. Family, familiarity, and friendships are a lovely thing to enjoy each fall.
Halloween parties. Bobbing for apples, cake walks, bingo, pumpkin carving, and coloring sheets are all exciting ways for the kids in the family to take joy in the season.
Trick-or-treating. Make it a family affair! Have everyone over for a scrumptious dinner, get the kids in costume, and head out to spend the evening getting some treats … and maybe some tricks, too!
Hikes to enjoy the colors. When October rolls around, there’s nothing quite like getting up into the mountains to enjoy nature’s colors. Something about the crisp air and wonderful surroundings is invigorating.
Run a race together. Whether you make a choice to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning or a Halloween Half, it is exciting to work toward a goal together and after that enjoy the race.
Light a fire and read a good book together. When the nights get cooler and it is dark earlier, it’s nice to make it cozy inside by building a fire and reading aloud with your people.
Make caramel apples. In addition to carving pumpkins, making caramel apples is a quintessential fall activity. Fresh orchard apples, caramels, and Popsicle sticks provide a delicious treat.
Hay rides. Why not go for a good, old-fashioned hay ride, complete with donuts and apple cider when it’s undertaken?
Have a chili and cornbread cook off. What is it about chili that makes it seem like a fall meal? Hold a good-natured competition, have some judges, and see which chili is graded best.
Annual hunting adventure. Lots of families delight in hunting together. Getting a tag, camping, hiking through the hills, and bringing home game is a fun pastime that has brought families together through time.
In certain cases when the family gathers, it can be hard to keep everyone together (families start expanding when children marry and grandchildren come along). For whatever fun is on the calendar for your family this fall, we can take charge of the transportation so everyone can ride together. Our coaches can carry up to 57 passengers, so we should have you covered! If we can help accomplish your family’s fun this fall, don’t think twice to phone us!
